Jana and Mike Bitton are all smiles in the calm water of the Upper Clackamas River.
I thought it would be a great idea to take Jana riverboarding (whitewater swimming) for our 15th wedding anniversary. I was wrong. While she loved kayaking last weekend at Trillium Lake, she loathed riverboarding on the Upper Clackamas River near Portland, Ore. She was a good sport, and gave it a go for me, her boyfriend of 15 years, on our special day. Thank you, Jana! In the future, though, she plans to play in water that holds still, not water that rushes over boulders and tosses her into sheer rock walls, then traps her in a devilishly fast eddy.
